Topic: The future of the Baldrige Award is uncertain. What is certain is the House Appropriations Committee has proposed zero funding for the Baldrige Program for FY 2012. Richard will share his exposure to the Baldrige Award in California as part of California Council for Excellence (CCE) and discuss CCE views on what is next for the Baldrige Award. Possible scenarios on CCE and CAPE (California Awards for Performance Excellence).

Richard E. Mallory is Chairman of the California Council for Excellence Regional Council in Sacramento (SacE)  http://www.calexcellence.org/, and is Chair-elect of the Leadership Council of the American Society for Quality, Government Division. He is a consultant with 20 years experience specializing in management analysis, facilitation, strategic planning, project management, and organizational development in public sector organizations. He has assisted several clients achieve Bronze and Silver Award recognition in the California Baldrige Award program, and assisted Eastern Municipal Water District in its improvement efforts from 2004-2008. He is a Certified Lead Examiner for application of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Standards in organizations, and has served six times as an Examiner and Senior Examiner for the California Quality Awards from 1995 to the present. He served as an Examiner for the U.S. National Quality Award in 2007. He was a past Judge for the California Team Excellence Award (2004 and 2005).

 

Prior to his consulting he served as Director of the CA Department of Housing (1997 and 1998), and as a California-Nevada State Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1986-1992). He is a Project Management Professional©, certified by Project Management Institute, and is author of the book, Management Strategy: Creating Excellent Organizations. He earned a BA from the California State University, Fresno, with a communications major, and a Masters of Management degree from University of Phoenix.

Mallory is a Client Services Manager for CPS Human Resource Consulting of Sacramento. Recent clients include the California Department of Water Resources, the City of Seattle, San Diego Housing Commission, California Community Services and Development Department, the Associated General Contractors of California, Department of Managed Health Care, and the Nevada Dept. of Transportation

Introduction to Lean Six sigma Course Objectives:

  • Understand the scope and breadth of a Lean Six Sigma initiative.
  • Gain an understanding of what waste is and how to identify it so that it can be reduced.
  • Become aware of variation and techniques to reduce it.
  • Become familiar with the DMAIC team project model.
  • Be aware of the infrastructure needed to support a Lean Six Sigma effort.
