Education Mission Statement
What is Certification? Certification is formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has demonstrated proficiency within and a comprehension of a specified body of knowledge at a point in time. It is peer recognition and not registration or license. Why get Certified? In today's world, where quality competition is a fact of life and the need for a work force proficient in the principles and practices of quality control is a central concern of many companies, certification is a mark of excellence. It demonstrates that the certified individual has the knowledge to assure quality of products and services. Certification is an investment in your career and in the future of your employer. Some Statistics: Since 1968, when the first certification exam was given, more than 85,000 individuals have become certified through ASQ, including many who have attained more than one designation. In addition, an increasing number of companies, approximately 125 at last count, have formally recognized ASQ's certification as verification of an individual's knowledge of quality theory and techniques. A recent search on www.monster.com, an Internet job listings site, resulted in more than 575 job postings calling for an ASQ certification. These statistics demonstrate the increasing value of ASQ certification as perceived in the marketplace. Although ASQ membership is not a prerequisite for certification, most of those holding one of these designations do belong to the Society. In fact certification ranks as one of the top benefits of membership. Why prepare with our Section's courses? Our instructors are very carefully selected from our local membership, holding the certification, holding a professional job in the subject area for at least 3 years, and having extensive adult education experience. We do not pay consultants rates; rather, we are retaining instructors who love to teach the subject. There are many training materials to choose from. Our training materials have been chosen as being the most authoritative and cost effective. Our training classes have been designed to prepare you in the shortest amount of time yet are long enough to cover the body of knowledge thoroughly. Training has been designed to cover lecture, discussion, sample questions, and auxiliary material. Our teaching facilities have been donated by sponsoring companies, keeping overhead down to a bare minimum. Yet each instructor is armed with a laptop and computer projector with the latest slides. Finding tutors, training materials and a training program on your own could easily cost you over $1000; yet, our programs cost $500-$700. It is high quality training delivered at a bargain! Why attend technical courses? Our instructors have received feedback over the last 5 years that the preparation course content is delivered too rapidly to learn the subject. It's true! The certification preparation courses have a large body of knowledge to review in 8 weeks. If you are weak in your statistics, this may not be enough preparation. Try one of our supplemental technical courses to go over the subject in deep detail. More questions about certification? How about some answers from National ASQ? Registration Process:
